Moab Vacation Tips
If you're just here for a few days, here are some highlights that you shouldn't miss while in Moab.
You could spend days in the National Parks, but these vacation tips will help you hit the highlights.
These are full agendas, so you'll be glad to get back to a nice townhome!
Day 1 in Moab - National Parks
- 1/2 day in Arches
Visit Arches early or late in the day to avoid the crowds. - Delicate Arch (2 hrs)
- Landscape Arch (1 hr)
- Double Arch/Turret Arch and Balanced Rock (30 min)
- If you have a full-day in Arches, get a permit and hike in the Fiery Furnace.
- If you've got young kids, stop at Moab's Sand Hill across the street from Arches National Park. (30 min)
- 1/2 day Canyonlands and Deadhorse State Park
- Canyonlands is not very crowded and is about 45 minutes from downtown.
- Be sure to visit Deadhorse State Park as it has even more amazing views and trails that can be enjoyed on foot or mountain bike.
- On your way back from Deadhorse don't miss Gemini Bridges. This is a 5 minute hike that takes you to a spectacular natural bridge.
Day 2 in Moab - Adventure
- 1/2 day at Sand Flats
- Mountain bike or motorcycle the famous Slick Rock trail
or - Rent a Jeep/Razor and drive Fins n' Things. If you're experienced, drive Hell's Revenge.
- For the less adventurous go on the Hummer tour on Hell's Revenge
- 1/2 day of Petroglyphs and Dinosaurs
- Mill Canyon Dinosaur Trails - 30 min
- Mill Canyon Dinosaur Bones - 30 min
- Moab Giants Dinosaur Museum - 2 hrs
- Wall Street Petroglyphs and Rock Climbing - 30 min
- Potash Dinosaur Footprints and Petroglyphs - 30 minutes
Day 3 in Moab - Hiking
- 1/2 day at Corona Arch
- Corona Arch site of the famous Arch swing video - 3 hrs, 3 miles roundtrip
or - 1/2 day Morning Glory Arch
- Grandstaff Canyon
and Morning Glory Arch - 4 hrs, 4.65 miles
roundtrip - 1/2 day hiking Millcreek North Fork
- Hike, cliff jump and play in the water in Millcreek North Fork - 1 to 2 hrs
Day 4 in Moab - Rafting
- Full day Moab Daily White Water Rafting
- Paddleboard or Raft the closest section of whitewater to Moab
- Most companies in Moab will start at Hittle Bottom
and pick you up at Take out Beach
- While you're up in the area be sure to take a look at Fisher Towers!
Day 5 in Moab - Goblin Valley/Canyoneering
- 1/2 day at Goblin Valley
- Goblin
Valley is a must see state park that would be considered a national park in any other state! Hike around here for 2-3 hours and take your camera!
then... - About 20 minutes away you'll find a super nice slot canyon called Little Wildhorse. It is a non-technical, beautiful slot canyon that will introduce your family to canyoneering!
- Be sure to hit Ray's Tavern in Green River on your way back to Moab!
Day 6 in Moab - Canyoneering
- Full day Canyoneering in the Irish Canyons
- Leprechaun Canyon
is the tightest, longest slot I've personally ever squeezed through.
It can be done with ropes from the top, but we just walked in from the bottom, went up and came back down with no ropes.
This slot is tight, so if you're above 185 pounds you may have a difficult time with this one. - Be sure to hit Ray's Tavern in Green River on your way back to Moab!
